Maine's only solar lobster wharf

Jim Merryman, owner

Jim Merryman has been dedicated to the ocean and its lobster industry since he was a young boy coming of age in Harpswell, Maine. A fisherman since he was old enough to hold a rod, he baited his hook with muscles and clams, caught bluefish, cod and mackerel. At eight years old, he began lobstering with three traps and a rowing skiff. As time passed and his love of the ocean grew, he added more traps and acquired his first boat, The Sarah Bev. He in founded Potts Harbor Lobster in 1996. Merryman acquired Reversing Falls Lobster Wharf in 2010 to preserve the historic location as working waterfront.

Merryman is Co-President of Fishing Families for Harpswell, an association dedicated to preserving Harpswell’s fishing heritage for future generations. In this capacity, Merryman and his Harpswell neighbors were successful in defeating the installation of a liquefied natural gas plant that threatened the lobster and fishing industries in Casco Bay.

In 2012 Merryman further committed to protecting the ocean environment for the future, by reducing his own carbon footprint. With the help of Revision Energy, Merryman’s Reversing Falls Lobster Wharf became the first solar working waterfront in Maine.
